How to install a mass flow meter and what aspects should be noted during installation?

1. Why do general flow meters require straight pipe sections?
5. Sensor pipeline installation:
Avoid twisting/bending stress.
Do not use the sensor to align the pipeline.
Do not use the sensor to support the pipeline.
Do not directly support on the sensor.
The downstream valve is used for zeroing.
Elbows should avoid condensation water entering the junction box.
The maximum cable length between the sensor and the transmitter is 1000ft (300m). There should be at least 0.6m distance between the sensor and large transmitters or motors. Since the sensor's operation relies on electromagnetic fields, it is essential to avoid installing the sensor near large interfering electromagnetic fields.
The installation location should also be carefully selected to avoid vibrations as much as possible.
6. Factors to consider in installation:
Installation - Shut-off valve and control valve.
To ensure no flow during zeroing, shut-off valves should be set upstream and downstream of the mass flow meter, ensuring no leakage.
The control valve should be installed downstream of the mass flow meter, maintaining as high static pressure as possible to prevent cavitation and flashing.
Installation - Pulsation and vibration.
To prevent mechanical vibrations from occurring in the process and externally, inquire with the manufacturer about the resonance frequency range of the provided mass flow meter, and consult the manufacturer about the on-site vibration conditions to determine if the following measures are necessary, such as:
Setting up a pulsation damper,
Setting up a vibration damper or flexible connection pipe,
Special clamping fixtures for flow sensors, etc.
Installation - Preventing mutual influence between mass flow meters.
When two mass flow meters of the same model are installed in series, or multiple mass flow meters are installed closely in parallel (or in parallel), especially when installed on the same support frame, the vibration of the measuring tube can cause mutual influence between the mass flow meters, leading to interference and abnormal vibrations, which can severely prevent the instruments from functioning. Preventive measures should be taken during installation, such as:
Requesting the manufacturer to stagger the resonance frequency values near the instruments;
Increasing the distance between flow sensors, not installing them on the same frame, and setting up independent support frames;
Installing flow sensors in opposite directions;
Setting up vibration isolation materials between flow sensors, etc.
7. Loading and unloading measurement:
In loading and unloading measurement applications, the sensor housing should be installed facing up or vertically. A one-way valve should be installed downstream of the sensor to prevent backflow of the medium. The one-way valve should be installed as close to the sensor as possible. In some cases, the process medium cannot be completely drained from the pipeline; in this case, a flag-style installation is generally recommended. During loading or unloading applications, the following startup steps should be followed as much as possible:
Install shut-off valves upstream and downstream of the sensor;
Close the upstream valve;
Open the downstream valve partially;
Slowly open the upstream valve to expel air and allow the medium to fill the sensor;
When the flow system starts measuring, slowly open the downstream valve until fully open.
