The difference between pressure transmitters and pressure gauges.

In life, we often hear about pressure gauges and pressure transmitters. Nowadays, they have been widely applied in many fields of our lives and industries. Although their names are quite similar, there are actually significant differences between them. Many people may still be unclear about the specific differences between the two. Today, the technical editor from Shaanxi Huibo Electromechanical will explain the differences between pressure transmitters and pressure gauges.
First, before we clarify this issue, we need to understand what pressure transmitters and pressure gauges actually are. Only by understanding these two things can we effectively distinguish between them.
1. What exactly is a pressure transmitter?
A pressure transmitter mainly consists of three parts: a pressure sensing element (also known as a pressure sensor), a measurement circuit, and a process connection component. It can convert the physical pressure parameters of gases, liquids, etc., sensed by the pressure sensing element into standard electrical signals (such as 4~20mADC, etc.) for secondary instruments like indicating alarms, recorders, and regulators to measure, indicate, and adjust processes.
2. What is a pressure gauge?
A pressure gauge (English name: pressure gauge) refers to an instrument that uses elastic elements as sensitive components to measure and indicate pressure above the ambient pressure. The application of pressure gauges is extremely widespread, almost covering all industrial processes and scientific research fields. They can be seen everywhere in thermal pipeline networks, oil and gas transmission, water and gas supply systems, and vehicle maintenance shops. Especially in industrial process control and technical measurement, mechanical pressure gauges are increasingly used due to the high mechanical strength and ease of production of their elastic sensitive components.
3. After understanding what pressure transmitters and pressure gauges are, let's look at the differences between the two:
1. Different measurement accuracy. Generally, the standard instrument accuracy required for calibrating pressure transmitters is much higher than that required for pressure gauges.
2. Different calibration relationships. Pressure gauges often can only calibrate a pair of input-output relationships, while pressure transmitters may need to calibrate the relationship between input and communication data.
3. Different calibration markings. Calibration of pressure gauges must have corresponding metrological qualifications, while pressure transmitters generally do not require this except for production plants and new construction.
4. Different calibration objects. Pressure gauges have poor accuracy, no output, cannot be operated manually, and generally require calibration at 5 points, with varying discrepancies. In contrast, intelligent pressure transmitters usually only need to calibrate the zero point and full scale.
5. Different output displays. The output of a pressure gauge is a scale indication with its own display capability. The output of a pressure transmitter is current output, which must connect to a corresponding precision level ammeter for display.
Through the introduction of the concepts and differences between pressure transmitters and pressure gauges, it is not difficult to see that under the same working conditions, the pressure values measured by pressure transmitters are more accurate, and their functional expandability is much higher compared to pressure gauges.
