Emerson has launched its first non-contact radar level transmitter specifically for the food and beverage industry.



To meet the high demand for high precision and reliability in the field of hygiene and safety, Emerson recently launched the first non-contact radar device specifically designed for the food and beverage industry - the Rosemount™ 1408H Level Transmitter. This level transmitter features a hygienic compact design, fast scanning technology, excellent radar beam focusing, and IO-Link communication, providing accurate non-contact measurements that help optimize equipment operation and ensure food safety. It assists manufacturers in improving operational efficiency, reducing product loss, and ensuring food safety.
Non-contact radar is an ideal level measurement technology suitable for applications that require strict hygiene facilities and equipment. In stark contrast to traditional technologies, non-contact radar is essentially maintenance-free or requires very little maintenance, helping to ensure long-term reliability. Its top-down installation method reduces the risk of product loss due to leaks and is unaffected by process conditions such as density, viscosity, temperature, and pH. The compact and robust design of the Rosemount 1408H makes it an ideal solution for use in small tanks and space-restricted skids in food and beverage production. Its hygienic antenna is flush with the process connection, ensuring that process residues can be removed during in-situ cleaning and disinfection, and it is less prone to condensation and accumulation. This IP69-rated device meets hygiene certification, has a stainless steel housing with minimal seams, can withstand external rinsing, and ensures cleanliness.
The Rosemount 1408H is the first level transmitter to use 80 GHz frequency-modulated continuous wave technology on a single electronic chip with embedded intelligent algorithms. It achieves excellent radar beam focusing, avoiding blockages in internal tanks caused by agitators, and provides higher measurement accuracy. The fast scanning technology makes the Rosemount 1408H one of the fastest level measurement technologies on the market, with information collection efficiency over 40 times that of traditional transmitters. This significantly improves measurement accuracy while reducing product loss due to waste, greatly increasing production capacity, reducing production variability, and enhancing product quality and batch consistency. Additionally, the technology can measure from the bottom to the top of the tank, avoiding radar dead zones and helping users improve tank utilization.
The Rosemount 1408H is the first non-contact radar transmitter that can connect with the IO-Link communication protocol, allowing for easy integration with automation systems. It not only provides traditional 4-20 mA switch outputs and digital high-speed communication but also features innovative technology and intelligent algorithms that simplify installation and commissioning, saving time and ensuring smooth operation of the equipment. When used with the new Rosemount IO-Link Assistant software (for setting parameters via IO-Link), it further enhances the user experience of Rosemount IO-Link devices.
